Getting started
Who is OM Events for?
Anyone running, working, or attending local market events — car boot sales, farmers markets, craft fairs, community gatherings, and similar. We support three roles: buyers (attendees), sellers (stallholders), and organisers (event hosts).
Do I need a business to use OM Events?
No. Buyers and sellers can sign up as individuals. Organisers can run events as individuals too, though if you're taking payment for tickets or stalls you'll need a Stripe Connect account, and Stripe will ask for the usual identity / banking details required for them to pay you out.
What does it cost to sign up?
Nothing. Creating an account is free for all three roles. You don't pay anything until an organiser publishes a paid event, a seller books a paid stall, or a buyer buys a ticket. See the full pricing breakdown on the Pricing page.
Can I switch between roles later?
Yes. Most users start as buyers and add other roles as needed — e.g., upgrading to organiser by applying through Profile → Apply as Organiser. Organiser accounts go through a quick admin review (usually 1–2 working days) before they can publish.
Which platforms is OM Events on?
iOS and Android via the App Store and Google Play. Event pages and account flows like email verification and password reset also work on the web at openmarketevents.com.
For buyers (attendees)
How do I find events near me?
Open the Discover tab. You can browse a list or a map view, search by name or city, filter by category, distance, or "open now", and save favourites. Featured events and top-rated events are highlighted.
Do you charge me a booking fee on top of the ticket price?
No. The ticket price an organiser sets is the ticket price you pay. We never add a buyer-side booking fee. Card processing is handled by Stripe and is built into the transaction — no extra line item appears at checkout.
How do I get into an event with my ticket?
Your ticket is a QR code stored in the app under My Tickets. At the gate, an organiser staffer scans it. The QR works offline, so signal at the venue is not a problem.
What happens if an event I bought a ticket for is cancelled?
The organiser triggers refunds when cancelling. Refunds go back to the original payment method via Stripe — typically arriving within 5–10 working days depending on your bank. You will get an email when the refund is issued.
For sellers (stallholders)
Who is the "Seller" role for?
For traders who want to book and pay for a stall at someone else's market — side hustlers, weekend resellers, small businesses. Sellers see the same discover view as buyers but with stall-booking enabled.
How do I book a stall?
Open any event with stalls available. Choose a stall type (standard, premium, etc.), pick the date if it's a recurring market, add any optional extras the organiser offers, and pay in-app via Stripe. You'll receive a digital stall ticket with a unique stall number.
Can I book a single date on a recurring market?
Yes. Recurring events show each upcoming date as a separate option. You only pay for the dates you book — booking next Sunday doesn't commit you to every Sunday.
Do I pay anything beyond the stall fee?
No. Sellers pay the stall fee the organiser has set. Nothing extra is added on top by the platform.
For organisers
How do I become an organiser?
From Profile → Apply as Organiser. Tell us about your events (type, typical size, location). Our team reviews most applications within 1–2 working days, after which you can publish.
Is the first event really free?
Yes — your first event is on us. No card required, no time limit. You only pick a plan when you publish your second event.
What does the platform commission cover?
The commission (5% on most plans, 3% on Pro) is taken from paid ticket and stall sales and covers ticketing, gate scanning, organiser dashboard, recurring event support, attendee communications, and ongoing platform development. Free events have zero commission. Stripe card-processing fees are separate.
How do payouts work?
Ticket and stall payments flow through Stripe Connect directly into your bank account. The platform commission is taken at payout time as a Stripe Application Fee — you do not need to invoice anyone. Standard Stripe payout timing applies (typically 2–7 working days depending on your country and history with Stripe).
Can I run recurring events?
Yes. Choose Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, or Monthly when creating an event, plus a number of occurrences or an end date. Up to 52 occurrences per recurring event. The billing impact is shown up-front so there are no surprises.
Can I sell tickets to attendees AND stalls to sellers at the same event?
Yes. Each event supports separate ticket types (entry fees with different price tiers) and stall types (each with quantity, price, and dimensions). Sellers and buyers see the relevant options for their role; you manage both from one event dashboard.
What if I need to cancel an event after publishing?
Cancel from the event's actions menu. Attendees and sellers are notified automatically, and refunds are processed via Stripe back to original payment methods. The platform does not re-charge commission on refunded sales.
Do I need internet at the gate to scan tickets?
No. The gate scanner works offline — it pre-caches valid tickets before the event and validates QRs cryptographically on-device. Any scans done offline sync when signal returns. You can also invite multiple staff to scan in parallel.
What if I run more events than my plan allows?
You'll be prompted to upgrade to the next tier. We do not silently charge overage fees — you choose whether to upgrade or wait for next month's reset.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, any time, from Profile → Manage Subscription. Plan changes are prorated for the remainder of the month.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The only charges are: your subscription or per-event fee (you choose), and the commission on paid sales (5% standard, 3% on Pro). Stripe's card-processing fees are separate and shown clearly. No setup fees, no contracts, no buyer-side booking fees.
Trust, security & account
How is my data protected?
All traffic is encrypted (TLS), authentication runs through Firebase Auth, and per-user access is enforced by Firebase Security Rules. Payment data is handled end-to-end by Stripe — we never see or store full card details. App requests are gated by Firebase App Check (Play Integrity on Android, DeviceCheck on iOS) so only the genuine OM Events app can talk to our servers.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile → Delete Account. Your profile and credentials are removed, active subscriptions cancelled, and past tickets / reviews anonymised. If you have upcoming events as an organiser, cancel them first so attendees can be refunded. See the Privacy Policy for full retention details.
What if my account is suspended?
We only suspend accounts for confirmed terms violations, fraud, or repeat abuse reports. You'll receive an email explaining the reason and how to appeal. Active subscriptions are paused; ticket holders for cancelled events are refunded.
Where can I read your full terms and policies?
See the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy. All three mirror the policies inside the app verbatim.
